I took this photo near Panorama Point in Badlands National Park during a road trip with my family. We had pulled over to see the beautiful canyons; they are behind where I’m standing for this shot. What struck me even more, however, was our car sitting alone in the vast expanse. The sheer nothingness of nature, punctured by our minivan of steel, seemed equal parts elegant and comical.
